The idea of getting an extra pack of cards when you open a box is always well-received and for the past few years, Upper Deck has partnered up with both Universal Distribution and GTS Distribution to do exactly that. The bonuses are going to be back again next season with 2016-17 Upper Deck Overtime Hockey and there have been some new twists added to the ever-evolving brand.
Starting in October, those that purchase a box of Artifacts, Upper Deck Series One, Trilogy, or Black Diamond will receive a pack of 2016-17 Upper Deck Overtime Hockey. Expected to again be split up into three waves over the course of the season, packs contain four cards which include an exclusive insert card. As a new bonus, there are Instant Win cards which can be redeemed for free boxes of certain Upper Deck hockey products.
The 2016-17 Upper Deck Overtime Hockey base set is expected to once again consist of 180 base cards. The first 60 come in the first wave packs and are split between 40 current players, 10 legends, and 10 rookies. Each card is going to have parallel versions that come in Blue Foil (1:2), Red Foil (/99), or Gold Foil Autographs (1:36).
Top Rank is the theme of the Wave 1 insert set and there are 20 different cards to collect. Printed on rainbow foil, it has parallels that are going to be difficult to pull or locate on the secondary market. Much like the base set, the parallels are Blue Rainbow (/25), Red Rainbow (/10), and the super-scarce Gold Rainbow Autographs (/3).
